How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

If you’re a Kia sedan or SUV owner around Alton and Edwardsville, you may be wondering, “How often should you rotate your tires?” Well, a good interval to go by is to have your tires rotated between every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. While this is a great recommendation, the suggested time of when to rotate tires will vary on the type of Kia model you drive, its drivetrain, and how often you drive. Learn more about how many miles to rotate tires with the helpful experts at Federico Kia.

Why Do I Need to Rotate My Tires?

Having your tires rotated every several thousand miles extends the lifetime and function of your vehicle’s tires, and also keeps drivers on track of their Kia maintenance schedule. In addition, drivers will immediately notice some benefits when they drive away after having their tires rotated. These include:

  • Less noise on the road
  • Relieves unnecessary stress on the drivetrain
  • Improved traction on slippery roads

Rotating Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

Some Kia drivers have front-wheel drive, while others have rear-wheel drive, and as such, should be treated differently when it comes to rotating tires. The main difference between the two is that your engine sends the majority of its power to your front wheels if you have FWD, and sends power directly to the back for RWD drivers. No matter which drivetrain you have, tire rotations help add balance to your tires to ensure no one tire is receiving more wear-and-tear over the others. Take these additional tips in mind when rotating the tires of your FWD or RWD Kia:

  • Again, for RWD or FWD vehicles, you should at least be doing a tire rotation every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, although you will want to get a better estimate from your owner’s manual.
  • In the case that you want to perform a tire rotation yourself and you have a front-wheel drive-enabled vehicle, it’s important that you flip sides when moving your tires. What we mean, is that your left rear tire should go to the front right position, and the right rear tire should go to the left front position. The front tires, however, should be moved to the rear on the same side they started.
  • If you have a car with RWD, then just flip the process. The front tires should flip sides when moving back, and the rear tires should stay on their respective sides when being moved forward.
  • Depending on your typical driving conditions, you may need to rotate your tires more frequently. Contact our specialists to learn more about tire rotation based on your driving habits.

Rotating Tires on AWD Vehicles

If you’re wondering how many miles to rotate tires if you have an AWD vehicle, it is recommended that drivers have their tires rotated every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. This is due to the fact that the vehicle’s engine system sends power to every tire at the same time, putting extra pressure on the tires and their treads. Once again, please refer to your manual for your recommended intervals for your specific Kia AWD model.
